We are going South, toward San Bruno. And then we see Jeep, again and again. Unfortunately, none of them matches our criteria. So we look for a  Starbucks  to print out new ads. We want fresh Jeep. Thanks to our laptop and local maps, we locate our future Jeep with the GPS points. We find out that the distances are not quite the same here as they are at home, in Switzerland. When it takes 30 minutes to go and see a vehicle, here it takes three hours! Before setting off again, we analyse the situation. We have to redefine what kind of Jeep we need for the Rubicon Trail: TJ, preferably in 4.0 L with at least a three inches raise and large wheels, and in addition a winch and reinforced edges. Initial budget: 15,000 dollars (about 22′000 Swiss francs) for two vehicles. We had initially set a total of 30,000 Swiss francs. As for extra expenditure, every one of us shall have to use his personal credit card if necessary. Tuesday night and low spirit. We found nothing that fitted our criteria.

While we are making a review of the situation, Stéphane B cries out: “What if we used the Corolla (rental car, with some changes it could do the Rubicon Trail!” Burst of laughter, but the idea is brushed aside. Too much work to do. We come back to our first idea – a Jeep. It looks better fitted for the Rubicon Trail.
